What was that noise? I didn’t hear anything did you? No, but I saw a car going by without a sound coming from it. That’s something that you might be hearing or NOT hearing in the near future. More and more groups are asking for these electric cars due to rising and rising gas prices and emissions rates. In todays article we’re talking about EV or Electric cars and their convenience and cost main benefits which cause this effort to grow.
The first benefit that we’ll discuss the convenience of the EV cars and what they’ll do for us globally. Your morning commute on these ice cold days as we’re having now would change dramatically. First you would walk out into your garage and unplug your car taking just seconds and then you’d climb into your car with it already warm and your seats already heated because this is a electric car. With EV’s you can set up what time you want your heater to kick on and start to warm up your car. This is different to remote start with gas powered cars due to the fact that gas powered cars have to kick on and have to be already set to the settings that you want the night before to make sure that the car is nice and warm.
We’ll also be able to get away from foreign oil and the ever high costs on keep a car maintained. The EV’s use NO OIL that’s right kids I said NO OIL! There would be no more need to have wars that weren’t necessary. There would be no infighting with unstable and reckless countries that don’t value life as much as we all do. The world would be an all around safer place if each country made our own fuel products.
The most expensive part of owning one of these babies will be your batteries for that you’ll have to have in your electric car. This is also the biggest complaint that I’ve heard about this topic from many people before writing it is that the batteries cost a lot and they don’t last a very long time. The conversion kit for these types of cars is around 50 Grand! But when you balance it out on a single charge a car can get up to 150 miles per single charge. and at yout average 4 cylinder car lets say getting 30 miles to the gallon you avg. 10 cents per mile. But when you do it with EV your balance given your kWh is between 30-20 cents is about 3 cents a mile which is a staggering 70% difference! Companies like A123 are developing lithium based batteries will have dramatically different life spans will make it even more easy for us to go farther with these electric cars.
W hy do they cost so much now? They cost alot now not due to greed or car companies holding the electric car companies at gun point though it’s close. There isn’t that big of a demand for them so they don’t make them. The car companies will listen to us as the consumer they have to companies like Ford can’t afford not too. However, if Ford and the other big 2 (GM and Toyota) get on board and mass produce these cars and their batteries the cost will drop greatly. Tom Gage, president of AC Propulsion said that you could and would see drivetrains for EV’s average about $10,000 per car instead as of the previously stated $50,000.
Now! What kind of AMERICAN cars can you buy to both help this country and help your pocket book? There are a few companies around the country that you can choose from such as, The Electric Car Company, Tesla both out of California. And there’s always GM with their 2010 Volt which will have a small generator and electric power which can get your Volt about 390 miles per charge/gas. The Volt can get 40 miles from one charge and it’ll be able to plug right into your wall outlet.
Are you ready to get one of these puppies? If so you can either wait till 2010 for the GM Volt or visit Tesla and or The Electric Car Company. And if you want Ford to produce a EV to the masses just give them a call at (800) 392- FORD or (800) 392-3673.
