Toyota becoming a drunk drivers nightmare…

Toyota Motor Corporation is working on technology that will soon make it harder for drivers who have been drinking to drive themselves home. The system is deemed to be fail safe working on the aspect of “sweat sensors” which will be able to tell your BAC (Blood Alcohol Count) and in turn slow the car down to a dead halt.

1toyota-logo.gifAnother aspect of the system that Toyota is working on is that if the system with sensors involving the steering wheel can detect reckless driving.

The system will also come equipped to have a camera for your pupils to tell if they are focused or not. And in turn as stated before the car would be slowed to a stop.  Toyota plans to have the system read by the end of 2009.

Nissian too has been experimenting with breathalyzer-like devices in what both Toyota and Nissian call a uprising in Japanese alcohol related traffic accidents happening in the past two to three years. In July of 2006 a family of five was pushed off a bridge in Japan after they were hit head on by the drunk driver.

Some of these aspects like ignition locks are already in place here in the states where drivers with a bad habit of getting DUI’s have to blow into a machine to be able to turn their car on but can be manipulated by others because there is no way to stop the driver from having a friend blow into the device for him and then he himself driving drunk. This new system constantly checks the drivers steering and pupils to insure that a accident is less likely to occur. Toyota and Nissian should be praised for their efforts ion trying to curb such accidents from happening.

Now that doesn’t mean we here at American Car Freak want to see all car companies get these installed in their cars I feel like it’s a bit big brotherish and will lead to other and much more bigger problems. You give them an inch and they’ll take a mile.
